Check out the skis, snowboards unveiled at SIA Snow Show in Denver

The recent SIA Snow Show in Denver, as always, did not disappoint when it came to overloading the senses with the latest skis and  snowboards. Frankly, it made us dizzy.

We shot photos of many of the colorful, cutting-edge skis and boards we saw (see them below), but we will leave it to the experts to tell you what they thought of this year’s crop.

And here’s a sampling of the colorful skis and boards we saw. It’s important to note: there are offered as a peek ahead to next season, not as an endorsement of one product or another. Enjoy!

Colorado Ski and Snowboard Expo this weekend, Boston coming up Nov. 8-11

Get ready to hit the slopes by attending the Ski and Snowboard Expo this weekend (Nov. 2-4) in Denver and next weekend (Nov. 8-11) in Boston.

Freestyle Aerial Demonstration team presented by Crested Butte. Adults get demo areas to try slacklining, mountain board, curling, and a climbing wall.

And, oh yeah, the 2nd Annual Rocky Mountain Brew FestThe event runs from Friday to Saturday at the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver. Tickets, hours.

Next weekend’s event in Boston will include “the region’s most impressive ski and snowboard sale from East Coast Alpine and Eastern Boarder, and resorts around the globe will offer their best pre-season savings on winter vacation packages, lift tickets and season passes.” Live acts, interactive exhibits and ongoing giveaways also will be in the mix. Check out this nice review of our latest smartphone-friendly Toast mitts

Let’s face it: using a smartphone can be a pain while skiing or snowboarding. At  Swany we feel your pain, so we’ve developed groundbreaking gloves that you can keep on while you use that phone.
Writer Eric Wagnon just road-tested one of our smartphone-friendly gloves, the TS-30 Toast, for On the Snow. Check out the good things he had to say about the newest entry in our popular Toaster line (it arrives this fall), as well as some other entries in this growing category.

Shaun White wins Slopestyle for second gold, Torin Yater-Wallace wins first gold at Winter X Games Tignes

Torin Yater-Wallace won his first X-Games gold in Ski Superpipe on Friday at Winter X Tignes. The 16-year-old from Aspen topped the star-studded field with a massive third run. Watch it on ESPN.

EARLIER FRIDAY: It had been three years since Shaun White won gold at Winter X in snowboard slopestyle, an event in which even the superstar admitted he was behind the times.

Not any more. White had runs of 95 and 97 to not only catch up with the rest of the riders but to easily win his second gold medal in as many days on Friday (March 16) at Winter X Tignes. Watch how he did it at ESPN.

THURSDAY: What did you expect? One day after he was the top qualifier (with jet lag and no practice in the pipe), Shaun White won gold in Superpipe on Thursday (March 15) at Winter X Tignes. Watch video of his winning run.

Tom Wallisch has been the man to beat for much of the season in men’s ski slopestyle. That didn’t stop Bobby Brown, who knows a thing or two about being the “man to beat,” from snagging gold on Thursday. Watch the video at ESPN.

WEDNESDAY: Who needs practice? Jet lag? Forget about it. Shaun White arrived at Winter X Games Tignes on Wednesday (March 14) and went straight to the pipe, where he qualified first for the finals on Thursday (watch it at 1:30 EDT on ESPN2/3). He’s got good company: Louie Vito stands second and other qualifiers include  Iouri Podladtchikov. Watch the video.

The incomparable Kelly Clark won the women’s Superpipe over Elana Hight and a talented field. Meet the rest of the podium and watch the video. EarlierCanada’s Kaya Turski won her third consecutive Winter X Games Tignes gold medal at Women’s Ski Slopestyle. See who took took silver and bronze and watch video highlights of the event at ESPN.

Latest winner in Video Contest rides the rails with style at Mount Snow in Vermont

Congratulations to A. J. Scolaro,  the season’s third winner in the Swany Outdoor Adventures Video Contest. A.J. and his pals do some fine rail skiing as well as some jumps, including a Cork 5 Attempt. Did they make it? Let’s just say Simon Dumont isn’t looking over his shoulder yet.

For his winning entry, A.J will get a pair of great Swany Gloves.

In his own words: ”I’m from Connecticut and I’ve been skiing at Mount Snow, Vt., since I was 2. I started freestyle skiing when I was 10.  My video is of me and some friends skiing mostly rails at Mt. Snow over break when we weren’t skiing with the Mt. Snow ski team. I used a GoPro 1080 to make both of my videos.”

  • The season’s first winner, Cameron Little, captured a powder day at Apex Mountain Resort. Watch.
  • Our second winner, Dan Malone, tore it up at Vail. Watch.

Lindsey Vonn’s a perfect ’50′ in World Cup wins

Lindsey Vonn celebrates her 50th World Cup win.

You knew it was coming, but the result is still amazing: Lindsey Vonn claimed her 50th World Cup victory on Saturday (Feb. 4) by winning a downhill race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany by nearly half a second.

Even Vonn, famous for her steely resolve, was reduced to tears at one point after the race as she grasped the enormity of becoming only the third woman to reach the 50-victory plateau. She now trails only Annemarie Moser-Pröll (62 wins) and Vreni Schneider (55 wins).

Something tells us that Schneider’s second-place standing is in danger this season, given Vonn already has four wins in downhill alone. Read more.

Paris Hilton hits the slopes in style with Swany’s Rising Star gloves

Those are Swany's Rising Star gloves in Paris Hilton's right hand.

We have always had style at Swany Gloves, so we’re never surprised when we discover stylish people wearing our gloves.

Check out this shot of Paris Hilton getting ready to hit the slopes in Aspen, wearing a stylish white ensemble (look at that fur hat!). Now pay attention to the white gloves in her right hand: they are a pair of our Rising Star gloves.

While we’re guessing Paris chose Swany mainly for our high quality construction and superior warmth, we’re also aware that it might have been for the clean white color and the “star” design, which matches well with her “starred” ski pants. So if you’re looking for superior warmth AND style, accessorize like Paris and wear the Rising Star.

See more photos of Paris and her family, as well as other celebs in Aspen, by reading this story in the Mail Online.

Double dip for U.S. skiers as Bode Miller, Lindsey Vonn win World Cup downhills

Bode Miller flying to victory on the Birds of Prey course at Beaver Creek.

Call it a red, white and blue day on the slopes, as Americans Bode Miller and Lindsey Vonn both won World Cup Downhill races.

Miller came first at Beaver Creek, employing a strategy that was so bold, the line he took on the Birds of Prey course so aggressive, that he admitted afterward he was “nervous” in the starting gate. Everything turned out well, though, allowing Miller to claim his 33rd World Cup victory and third downhill win at the Colorado resort. Read where Didier Cuche, Ted Ligety and the rest of the field finished in this story.

Then it was Vonn’s turn. She crushed the field in a downhill at Lake Louise, beating all but one racer by at least two seconds in the World Cup downhill in Alberta. Julia Mancuso got off to a terrific start, but didn’t finish as strongly. Learn what happened to her and learn more about Vonn’s big day in this story.

It’s not the first time Miller and Vonn have won on the same day: the two “doubled” during the 2005 season as well.

Do you have photos from either race? Tweet ‘em to us @SwanyGloves, post them on our Facebook fan page (“Like” us while you’re at it)  or e-mail them to us at swanygloves@gmail.com. Best photo wins a pair of Swany Gloves, so start sending!
