These days everyone knows Breckenridge as one of the biggest and most popular ski destinations in Colorado.
But did you know that in 1960 the town’s population was 300 and many of its citizens worked as miners?
It’s true, and that’s only one of the many interesting nuggets of information in the first part of a five-part series, written by the Summit Daily News, on the ski resort’s 50th anniversary, which falls on Dec. 16.
You’ll also learn how many skiers Breckenridge hosted that season and the price of a lift ticket (you’ll wince) that gave skiers (no snowboarders in 1961) “access to one Heron double chairlift, a short T-bar for beginners and six ski runs,” according to the story. Read more.
