Vonn stumble opens the door for Mancuso podium in World Cup downhill

Can’t win ’em all. That’s what Lindsey Vonn must be thinking after a miscue at the top of the World Cup downhill course in Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria, on Saturday (Jan. 7) forced her to play a catch-up game the rest of the course. While Vonn was impressive, she still wound up fourth as local favorite Elisabeth Goergl won.

In a sign that the rest of the U.S. team is starting to catch up a bit with Vonn’s blazing start, teammate Julia Mancuso finished an impressive second to the Austrian. Read more.

The men also raced on Saturday in a World Cup giant slalom at Adelboden, Switzerland. Austrian Marcel Hirscher won in difficult conditions with American  Ted Ligety fourth, which meant he was able to maintain his lead in the overall GS standing. Read more.
