Kathrin Zettel wins World Cup slalom, while Tina Maze takes third in Aspen

UPDATE, Nov. 25: Slovenian star Tina Maze didn’t sweep the World Cup events in Aspen, but she did manage to finish third on Sunday in the slalom won by Austrian Kathrin Zettel. See how close Maria Hoefl-Riesch came to the podium and how 17-year-old American Mikaela Shiffrin made news with her second run, moving from 10th to 7th. Read more.

Nov. 24: New continent, same result for Tina Maze. The Slovenian star won her second  World Cup Giant Slalom of the young season on Saturday, topping the field at the Aspen Winternational.

Austria’s Katherine Zettel and Germany’s Viktoria Rebensburg followed behind.

A flu-weakened Lindsey Vonn battled through to finish a respectable 21st, while fellow American Julia Mancuso finished 15th. Read more.

The women return to the hill to race a slalom on Sunday, when rising U.S. star Mikaela Shiffrin will go for her second podium of the season.
