Tina Maze wins, sets up winner-takes-all race with Mikaela Shiffrin for World Cup slalom title

FIS LogoUPDATE: Slovenian superstar Tina Maze won the slalom on Sunday (March 10), in Ofterschwang, Germany, to overtake Mikaela Shiffrin in the slalom standings. Even though the 17-year-old American earned an amazing sixth podium this season (plus a World Championship) with her third-place finish, she now stands 7 points behind the Slovenian with one race to go. Ligety gets huge victory in World Cup GS to remain in hunt to defend title

Ted Ligety, facing long odds to defend his season title in GS, won a world cup race in Slovenia on Saturday (March 10). The American’s margin of victory was huge (1.61 seconds, the season’s biggest win in GS), but even he admits facing long odds of catching current GS leader Marcel Hirscher, who finished third.

Ligety wins World Cup Giant Slalom on Birds of Prey to avenge defeat by Hirscher

Ted Ligety got even with Austrian Marcel Hirscher on Tuesday (Dec. 6), using a blazing second run to claim victory in the World Cup Giant Slalom on Birds of Prey at Beaver Creek.

How good was the American’s second run? After finishing fourth in the day’s first run, he wound up defeating Hirscher by a comfortable .69 in the standings.

Ligety also made history with the win, which gave him the most giant slalom wins of any U.S. Racer, ahead of legends Phil Mahre and Bode Miller. Read more.
