Watch videos that illustrate why Swany gloves and mitts are the warmest and dryest around

Our SX Crossover gloves were designed to handle a wide variety of winter outdoor activities. Starting with palms that are durable but still flexible and including a zipper-pocket on the back of the gloves for the use of a heat warmer (or venting if you’re too warm), these high-quality gloves do it all. Watch this video to see why the SX Crossover is perfect for the world’s top athletes and people just like you.

The technology behind our fantastic Flexor gloves was developed by NASA for use in the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. The result is a glove that offers the most warmth AND dexterity of any glove on the market. Watch this video to see how the Flexor can work for you.

Toaster delivers the best of both worlds: the warmth of a mitt with the dexterity of a glove. Just unzip the mitt and use the glove inside to complete a variety of jobs in warmth, even using your smartphone. Watch this video to see how the Toaster, which uses technology developed for the U.S.  Navy on arctic expeditions, can work for you.

Our exclusive Triplex Insulation Technology offers thicker insulation on the back for more warmth and thinner on the front for better flexibility and heat management. Watch this video to see how the Triplex Insulation System provides the best moisture control and can help generate heat for your hands.

Our Dryfinger Waterproof Breathable Inserts are a big reason why our gloves keep your hands warmer and drier when you are skiing, snowboarding or just enjoying winter. Watch this video to see how Dryfinger Technology makes the difference between a good glove and a great glove.

Remarkable report tells the story of fateful avalanche in Washington that killed three

Elyse Saugstad survived the avalanche.

Elyse Saugstad survived the avalanche.

Last February’s fatal avalanche in Washington’s Cascades at Tunnel Creek behind Stevens Creek Ski Resort claimed three lives and focused national attention on backcountry safety. The New York Times has just published a remarkable re-telling of the day in Snow Fall: The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek.

This compelling, multi-part story blends traditional narrative seamlessly with streaming images that show topographic maps of where the avalanche happened, interactive graphics that illustrate what made the snow slide and how the air bag deployed that may have saved the life of skier Elyse Saugstad. There’s even a weather map showing the movement of the storm that created the unstable snow.

And after all that, there’s a video documentary in the words of the survivors. It’s an exhaustively reported, respectful story of the tragedy. For those who want to learn more about this fateful day and backcountry skiing in general, it’s a tremendous effort that brings you right into the events of that day.  Read it now.

The Specialized Stumpjumper is one of the Top 100

Or for that matter, what do RayBan Aviators share with waxless Nordic skis?

The answer? They’re all on the list created by Outside Magazine of the “Most Influential Gear Of All Time.”

And what a list it is, including the likes of carabiners, sun protection cream, metal-edge skis, neoprene wetsuits and the Specialized Stumpjumper.

Check out this great list of the Top 100 items to see if you agree. The folks at Outside know this is a moving target, so they’re also interested in hearing your feedback. Check it out.

Tony Hawk discusses skateboarding legacy and video games that made extreme sports popular

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD revisits some of his classic games.

There are skateboarding legends and then there is Tony Hawk.

Even though Hawk no longer competes in the X-Games, he still skates daily and keeps cranking out cool video games, including Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD (PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360), a high-definition remake of some of his classic games (Read USA Today’s review).

Bottom line: “The Birdman” remains a leader and an icon in his sport, so it’s always interesting to hear what he has to say. Check out this Q&A, which also includes video, of Hawk and John Gaudisio of GamerLive.TV discussing the superstar’s video games (there are now 12!) and how video games have fueled interest in extreme sports.
