Find out what’s next for gloves in Skiing Business interview with John Kloser of Swany America

The good folks at Skiing Business conducted a live Facebook chat with John Kloser, Vice President of Sales for Swany America, about the latest in gloves. Here’s a look at the great questions asked by Skiing Business and other Facebook users, along with John’s answers.

Jarl Skibumdad Berg (Facebook user): What is your best choice for spring gloves?

John Kloser: I would recommend our FX-10. This is a light-weight Flexor glove with leather palms and fingers. Flexor has mobile knuckle joints for better dexterity. It also has a 3D mesh on the back and a wrap-around strap.

Skiing Business: Would that be a good backcountry glove too, John?

Kloser: Yes the FX-10 would be a good ascent glove, lightweight and flexible. But we have developed some backcountry specific gloves for 2013. We are using the NeoShell fabric from Polartec. NeoShell is a waterproof fabric that has unprecedented breathabilty. We have three models (See them here) that are being well received in the marketplace. REI is putting all three of our backcountry gloves into their stores for this fall.

Skiing Business: Speaking of new fabrics and technologies, it seems like more brands are incorporating technology into their handwear. Where do you see that market going?

Kloser: Wearable technology is becoming very important. We are currently selling G-Cell gloves that are bluetooth adaptable and will sync to your phone. You don’t need to take your gloves off to talk on the phone — you feel a vibration and just push a button to talk. Video: Learn how Swany’s exclusive Triplex Insulation System keeps hands warmer, drier

There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to Swany’s great gloves and mitts. In fact,  “It’s what inside that counts” would be a good motto to remember when it comes to how we create the warmest gloves and mittens.

But that’s not all. Watch this video to see how the Triplex Insulation System provides the best moisture control and can even help generate heat for your hands.

Season’s first Video Contest winner enjoys a powder day at Apex Mountain in British Columbia

All hail Cameron Little, this season’s FIRST winner in the Third Annual Swany Outdoor Adventures Video Contest. For his winning entry, Cameron gets a pair of great Swany Gloves.

In his own words: “My home town is Port Angeles, Wash., though I live at Apex Mountain Resort (B.C) in the winter. I’m currently a Computer Science/Honors student at Western Washington University in Bellingham. My parents introduced me to skiing when I was 4 years old. I raced a bit when I was younger, then got involved in freestyle at Apex six or seven years ago. Last winter I coached the D-Team at Apex, and this year I’m instructing and shredding at Mt. Baker Ski Area.

The video I submitted was one awesome day at Apex this winter break. We got about 20 centimeters of powder on Dec. 30 and I skied with my helmet camera all day. On the technical side, I filmed in 720p 60fps (almost all of the video is slowed down to 50%) and used Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5 for editing. The music was provided free by the Weeknd.”

Take a look at last season’s winners in the  Swany Outdoor Adventure Video Contest winners, which ranged from the aerial acrobatics of Bobby Brown to out-of-control sledding to daring mountain rescues.

American Ted Ligety led after the first run, but wound up second on Sunday (Dec. 4) by .21 behind Austrian Marcel Hirscher at the Audi Birds of Prey giant slalom in Beaver Creek.

Bode Miller did not qualify for the second run, but teammate Tommy Ford finished a respectable 22nd. Get complete results and read more about the race.

And there is a chance for Ligety to extract some revenge: the men return here for a rescheduled World Cup GS on Tuesday.

American Lindsey Vonn won her third straight race in Lake Louise on Sunday. Read more.

SATURDAY (Dec. 3): The race was terrific on the Birds of Prey course at Beaver Creek, just not as successful for the Americans. Swiss skier Sandro Villeta surprised many by winning the Super G, followed by Aksel Lund Svindal and fellow Swiss, Beat Feuz, who earned his third podium of the season. Bode Miller survived a mistake to finish, but could not regain enough time to follow up his downhill win on Friday. Learn more about all the racers by reading this story from SkiRacing.com.

FRIDAY (DEC. 2): It was an American double-play as Bode Miller secured a thrilling victory on Friday on the Birds of Prey course in Beaver Creek shortly before Lindsey Vonn did the same at Lake Louise. Learn more.

Vonn doubles down for second World Cup downhill win in two days at Lake Louise

Lindsey Vonn wins her second World Cup downhill in a row.

Lindsey Vonn is on a downhill roll of epic proportions, winning her second World Cup Downhill on Saturday (Dec. 3) in as many days at Lake Louise in Alberta.

The American again smoked the field, leaving second-place finisher Marie Marchand-Arvier of France a distant 1.68 seconds off her blistering pace of 1:51:35. Remember the rivalry Vonn had with Maria Hoefl-Riesch in past years? Not so much any more, as Hoefl-Riesch wound up a distant 2:08 back. Learn where Julia Mancuso and the rest of the field finished by reading this story.

Bode Miller survived a mistake to finish, but could not regain enough time to follow up his downhill win on Friday. Ted Ligety, normally the strongest U.S. Super G skier, did not finish. Learn more about all the racers by reading this story from SkiRacing.com.
